A Time for Everything "The Ecclesiastical Theory" by B. S. Kolade.
While in church recently, the pastor while preaching on the topic; God’s Timing, told us to open our bible to the book of Ecclesiastes chapter 3, which says in Verse 1 that, Everything that happens in this world happens at the time God chooses.
I was so inspired by this chapter, that I decided to examine and write about it.
The book of Ecclesiastes generally, contains the thoughts of “the Philosopher” a man who reflected deeply on how short and contradictory human life is with its mysterious injustice and frustrations, and then came to the conclusion that “Understanding life, is Useless”.
He could not understand the ways of God, who controls human destiny. Yet, in spite of this, he advises and encourages people to work hard, and enjoy the gifts of God as much and as long as they can.
Indeed, a time is set for everything, you cannot fast-track things the way you want, neither can you predict what will happen in the next 5 minutes.
Sometimes when something happens, you get that feeling that you knew it was going to happen, or you subconsciously expected it to happen, or you feel something that happens now, has happened before in the exact same way (The Déjà vu moment), that's only your mind calculating probabilities, not certainty. You subconsciously calculate a string of events that has taken place, then create possibilities (what some people call, Predicting the Future), based on what has already happened. Sometimes, things happen the way we expect them to, sometimes, it doesn’t. (probability meets coincidence).
Ecclesiastes chapter 3 verse 2-8 says;
“He sets the time for birth and the time for death, the time for planting, and the time for harvest, the time for killing and the time for healing, the time for tearing down and the time for building, the time for sorrow and the time for Joy, the time for mourning and the time for dancing, the time for making love and the time for not making love, the time for kissing, and the time for not kissing, the time for finding and the time for loosing, the time for saving, and the time for throwing away, the time for tearing and the time for mending, the time for silence and the time to talk, the time for love and the time for hate, the time for war and the time for peace”
If truly God has set a time for everything, why then do we worry ourselves, trying to skip all the bad parts, and enjoy the good times.
It’s all sequential. You cannot harvest, without planting. You would never feel the need to talk if there wasn’t silence. You would never know the meaning of Joy, if there was no sorrow, and so on…
Has it ever occurred to you that everything you’ve done from the moment you were born to this present moment was planned; that first kiss that you spent hours, days, months or even years practising for on your palm, or your mirror *laughs*
it finally happens, and then some of you feel like you’ve accomplished what you planned to do, while others starts feeling guilty because they feel like they’ve sinned against God… Nobody stops to think that God planned it.
NB: I’m not saying you should go about doing bad things intentionally with the excuse that “God Planned it”, or not feel guilty and ask for forgiveness of sin after doing something really bad, with the excuse “God planned It”.
All I’m saying is that everything around us happen for a reason, especially those things we did not plan for. Take the Story of JOB for instance (The Book of JOB in the Bible)
You see, God has set a right time for everything. He has given us the desire to know what will happen next (the future), but never gives us the satisfaction of fully understanding what he does or how he does it.
All we can do is be happy and do the best we can while we are still alive. We should all enjoy what we have worked for.
I definitely agree now, with the saying that;
The wisest of all men, is foolish to God, the foolishness of God is wiser than that of man.
Life is a gift, you cannot add anything to it, or take anything from it.
One thing and everything God does is to make us stand in Awe of him…
Hahahaha, Isn’t God Awesome?!?!?
